Have you done projects similar to mine (apartment / villa / office / shop)?

That’s one of the most important questions to ask 👌 — because experience with your type of property (apartment vs villa vs office vs retail) makes a huge difference in both design and execution.

✅ Why It Matters

  • Apartments → need smart space planning, compact modular kitchens, multi-use furniture, vastu-friendly layouts.
  • Villas / bungalows → involve larger scale planning, luxury finishes, landscaping, double heights, custom furniture.
  • Offices → focus on ergonomics, brand identity, electrical load, acoustics, workstation layouts.
  • Shops / retail → require visual merchandising, display lighting, customer flow, branding.

👉 A designer who mostly does luxury villas may overshoot budget in a 2BHK flat. Similarly, a designer used to office interiors might not create a cozy family apartment.

💡 How to Ask Designers

When you meet them, ask:

  1. Have you done apartments/villas/offices/shops similar in size and budget to mine?
  2. Can you show me photos or a walkthrough of those projects?
  3. What specific challenges came up, and how did you solve them?
    • e.g., storage in compact apartments, waterproofing kitchens in villas, noise control in offices, display lighting in shops.
  4. Do you have references from those clients I can contact?

⚠️ Red Flags

  • They only show you Pinterest-style mood boards, not their executed work.
  • Their past projects are too different in scale (e.g., only 10,000 sq.ft. offices when you want a 2BHK).
  • They can’t explain the practical challenges of your property type.

✅ Pro Tip

Always check:

  • For apartments → ask if they’ve worked in similar builder floors / societies in Delhi NCR.
  • For villas/bungalows → ask if they’ve handled landscaping, pools, external façades along with interiors.
  • For offices/shops → ask if they also manage branding + signage (not just furniture).

👉 Would you like me to create a ready “Property-Type Questionnaire” (specific questions for apartments, villas, offices, and shops), so you can use the exact set of questions depending on your project type when interviewing designers?
