How High Should Your TV Be? | Gurgaon and Delhi NCR
A house without a TV is like a castle in the clouds: it only exists in fairy tales. and that’s only a slight exaggeration. In my experience, with hundreds of home building projects, I can’t recall a single instance where one of our clients designed a home without considering the location of the TV. This reality creates design challenges as home designers consider spatial orientation with possible competing focal points for exterior views, fireplaces and televisions. Here we look at a critical factor to consider when installing your TV: height. That’s certainly not the only thing to think about, but placing your TV too high for its place and purpose can leave you with regrets and literally a sore throat.
What is the ideal height for a television?
There are many things to consider when viewing a television experience, including the size and quality of your television and the distance between the television and your main viewing area. But for one feature there is a simple and precise rule: the ideal center of the screen must be at the viewer’s eye level.Factors to consider when considering the ideal television height include the height of the typical viewer and the size of the television.A TV can be measured and counted, but the optimal center for a TV intended primarily for viewers seated on a sofa is usually about 108 centimeters off the floor.Historically, the general rule of thumb for optimal viewing distance is 2.5x screen diagonal. Note, however, that opinions differ on this rule, with some now recommending a TV larger than the space in the room. For newer HDTVs, some recommend an optimal viewing distance of 1.5 times the diagonal of the TV.For a television primarily intended for viewers seated on a sofa, i.e. 3.A 55 or 60 inch TV (3.65m 2.5 = 146 centimeters or 57 inches) can work within 65 meters of the TV, but you can definitely see examples of using 65 to 70 inch Find TVs in the same situation.Suppose you choose a 60-inch TV. A 60 inch TV is approximately 81 centimeters high, which means that the center of the screen is 40 centimeters.5 cm from the bottom of the TV. Most sofas are about 18 inches off the floor, and a relaxed adult’s eye level is about 25 inches above the seat. The optimal center height for a typical seated viewer is 108 cm (45 + 63 cm). For example, a 60-inch television should be installed so that the bottom edge of the screen is 67.5 centimeters from the floor.
What is the right height for a television over a fireplace?
With the settings described above (distance = 2.5 times the length of the diagonals and central TV height at eye level for the primary viewing perspective), some media experts recommend never placing the TV above the fireplace. These are good tips for getting the best viewing experience from a seated viewer’s perspective. But there are also common sense considerations that lead homeowners to opt for a TV over the fireplace. The center of the television in the image shown appears to be more than 150 centimeters off the floor, placing the television above the optimal viewing height from a seated viewer’s perspective. But the perspective of the seated viewer is not always in the foreground. Sometimes the perspectives of the people in the room are taken into account, other times the style and character of the room are simply overriding factors. The, with a screen centered 150cm off the floor, is almost perfect for a 167m adult, not bad for sporting events where guests are standing, snacking and chatting. If the TV above the fireplace serves as the primary TV in your home, keeping the screen as low as possible can become a priority. One of the advantages of linear chimneys, which may have contributed to their growing popularity, is that the height of the finish can be lower than traditional shapes. In the room seen here, we managed to keep the TV relatively low by using a linear fireplace with no hearth or windowsill. The TV isn’t set at the ideal viewing height (average height is about 5ft), but by avoiding the fireplace and mantel we’ve achieved a well-crafted height that’s acceptable to our customer.
Did you know there are different heights for different circumstances?
The space shown here allows the installation of two televisions: one in a comfortable position for watching movies and daily television and the other over the counter, ideal for those who play pool or watch the game while having a drink. When the TV is above a bar or in an additional room with a pool table and other entertainment equipment, the ideal viewing height is less clipped and less dry.All potential prospects must be considered and considered. The optimal height from the perspective of a person seated at the bar may be too low for people standing around the pool table trying to see over the heads of the spectators seated at the bar. This is why TVs in bars and restaurants are usually seen near the ceiling – they need to be easy to see from multiple angles.
If only one TV needs to be considered, determining the height might be more a matter of style than function. For some people, television is not that important. For others, the design aspect and possibly space limitations dictate TV placement more than viewing height settings. For many of us, choice involves a compromise. We need to think about how to align our spaces with the main purpose of the space, considering factors like style, comfort and circulation.
A happy medium
Sometimes it’s a good balance. In this room, the TV is positioned very close to the ideal viewing height from the sofa (the center of this TV seems perfectly positioned at 108cm off the floor), yet the center of the room is balanced between the outside view, fireplace, and TV.
While this TV may not be the perfect place to watch the trilogy of films (this TV’s center height appears to be around 182cm from the floor), the stunning views from the rear windows and surrounding modern fireplace create an inviting space for reflection or conversation play.
Determine the use of your tv
It is important to discuss these issues with the design and construction teams to ensure functionality takes precedence over design or vice versa.Apparently, the television in the kitchen or in the large bathroom has different requirements than the main television in the family when it comes to long-term viewing. We’ve built homes with up to 20 TVs, and not all of them need to be adjusted to their optimum viewing height. For TVs that are not intended to be the center of attention, size and placement may not be critical factors. If the primary function of the room is not related to the TV, such as B. in the kitchen, the primary design function of the room should determine the details.
In the end, it’s your home
The optimal viewing height of the television should not be the overriding factor in the design of the main viewing area, but it is imperative to understand what the optimal viewing height is: the viewer’s eyes are on the television’s death corner. With this in mind, you can weigh the importance of good TV viewing height against other factors such as the decorative style of your room. It’s a choice you’ll have to make unless you’re one of the few living in this castle in the sky without a TV.
